Not only will it afford incredible networking opportunities but it will provide CitiesAlive delegates with a visit to one of Philadelphia’s most important cultural and historical institutions, the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The reception on Thursday, December 1st will be emceed by Drew Becher, president, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS), who, along with the City of Philadelphia, is the local host for this year’s CitiesAlive. Delegates attending the reception will enjoy cocktails and canapés, as well as an opportunity to wander through some of the Museum’s 83 galleries, which house over 225,000 works of art. The 125-year old Museum became an iconic symbol of American culture when its 72 stone steps were immortalized in the 1975 film Rocky, featuring actor Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa running up the steps in a gray sweat suit. Since then, the Museum’s steps have become one of the city’s “must-do’s” with many a visitor seen imitating Rocky’s climb to greatness. Once at the top, visitors can enjoy scenic views of the city before entering the museum. One of Philadelphia's most beloved landmarks, the Art Museum also features a spectacular new outdoor sculpture garden on the green roof of its new underground parking garage. “We look forward to welcoming CitiesAlive delegates to the Local Host Committee reception in such a magnificent venue as the Philadelphia Museum of Art,” says Mr. Becher. “We know the Museum will provide a memorable ambiance and not-to-be-forgotten experience for everyone attending. We are proud to be able to showcase one of Philadelphia’s most stunning landmarks.” FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE LOCAL HOST COMMITTEE RECEPTION CAN BE FOUND ON THE CITIESALIVE 2011 WEBSITE – WWW.CITIESALIVE.ORG LIVING ARCHITECTURE MONITOR SUMMER 2011 21 http://WWW.CITIESALIVE.ORG http://www.citiesalive.org http://WWW.CITIESALIVE.ORG
