Portland State University

Portland, Oregon Projected Opening: September 2012 • Cost: $87.7 million University Pointe at College Station will be made up of both studio and apartment units, providing housing to 978 students. The 16-story high-rise will include a social lounge, laundry area, and study rooms. On every third ﬂoor, there will be a community atrium with glass walls or a “sky lobby” which connects the rooms on those ﬂoors to create community and to invite sunlight in. The complex will also feature a ﬁtness center, classrooms, a lecture hall, and 5,400 square feet of street-level urban retail space. Planned to meet LEED Gold certiﬁcation, various sustainable resources will be implemented into the building including storm quality management controls, an eco roof with native plantings, low consumption indoor ﬁxtures, and green housekeeping and recycling. American Campus Communities has contracted with SERA Architects and Walsh Construction in the design and development of the housing facility.

CBORD Puts Nutritional Information in Your Hand
The CBORD Group, Inc. recently released its newest application for smart phones that helps students make better dining choices. Their online application, NetNutrition, allows students to view menu options and to add ﬁlters to the information such as dining locations, allergens, vegan, kosher, and locally grown to name a few. Boise, Idaho Projected Opening: February 2012 • Cost: $15 million Designed primarily for upper-level students, the new residential facility will be composed of 90 two-story townhouse-style units, each of which will feature four bedrooms and two baths. Providing housing to 360 students, the complex will include a recreation area with volleyball and basketball courts and gas grills, providing a gathering space for student interaction. The facility has been designed by OZ Architecture and is being built by Engineered Structures, Inc.

Salt Lake City, Utah Projected Opening: August 2012 • Cost: $31.7 million The Donna Garff Marriott Honors Residential Scholars Community will be composed of fourand eight-person apartments, each of which will include a full kitchen with single and double bedroom spaces. The LEED Silver facility will include low ﬂow ﬁxtures and is expected to have an energy performance that is 30 percent greater than what is called for by building code requirements. In addition to sustainable features, the apartment building will also include a convenience store and coffee shop, multipurpose room, seminar rooms, ﬁreplace lounge, library, residential courtyard, and the “Big Ideas Room,” which features technology resources for students. The facility is being built by Gramoll Construction and was designed by Jacoby Architects and Potter Lawson, Inc.

Castleton, Vermont Projected Opening: July 2012 • Cost: $8 million The three-ﬂoor corridor-style residence hall will feature the conference and events ofﬁce on the ﬁrst ﬂoor, while the second and third ﬂoors will be divided into three pods per ﬂoor. Each pod will be separated by a student lounge area and kitchen space to promote community among the building’s residents. The 162-bed residence hall will include a solar panel roof and will be designed to achieve LEED Gold certiﬁcation. The project is a collaboration between JMZ Architects & Planners and DEW Construction.
