The Crisis Decision Team (chancellor, vice chancellors, attorney, marketing and communications director, chief of university police) made all the critical decisions. The Emergency Operations Group (members from environmental health and safety, university police, physical plant, housing and residence life, marketing and communications, information technology, telecommunications, and the center for marine science) stayed on campus during the storm and responded to facilities issues throughout the night and morning. The Emergency Operations Center was open from 5 p.m. on Friday, August 26th through 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 27th. From a housing and residence life standpoint, we had a full-time residence coordinator and a graduate assistant in each of the eight

residential areas. Resident assistants and desk receptionists also volunteered to stay to help create a staff presence in all occupied areas. We did experience approximately two dozen trees down on campus and leaks in a number of buildings. Water extraction and carpet cleaning were the primary recovery efforts that housing and residence life had to deal with. I would estimate that total recovery costs for housing and residence life was $20,000. Campus re-opened at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 27th, and classes resumed on a normal schedule on Monday, August 29th.

Ellett: Ditto, we did not relocate
students.

Felice: We did not relocate any students who were already on campus but encouraged them to stay indoors during the height of the storm. We also adjusted our RA rounds to be sure our staff were not venturing

Lucier: We did not, except for students who were impacted by the storm in one hall. They were moved due to a failing roof and roof drain in one hall which caused a great deal of water to enter the building. It flooded student rooms, undermining ceilings and walls and causing a range of hall issues. Our campus lost over 70 large trees, which was one of the many reasons classes were cancelled – just to get the trees removed.
