First-Time Freshmen We look for a broad, balanced high school education that includes study in English, mathematics, science, a language other than English, and social studies; and an acceptable score on either the SAT or the ACT assessment. Send your test results to us. International Students You’re welcome at Buffalo State. The North Wing Residence Hall is a year-round global living center where students from around the world live with exchange students, honors students, and students with an interest in international issues. For more information, please visit www.buffalostate.edu/ admissions and click on “International Students.” Deadlines: If you want to start in the fall semester (beginning in August), make sure we have your completed application by June 1. If you want to start in the spring semester (beginning in January), make sure we have your completed application by November 1. How Do I Apply for Financial Aid? You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form as soon after January 1 as possible. The form is found at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Requests for financial aid do not affect admission decisions. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) helps students with potential qualify for admission to the college. To be considered, you must • Be a New York State resident for 12 months before enrollment. • Have a recognized high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma (GED). • Be able to demonstrate potential for success through recommendations, letters, essays, or other supplemental information. • Have a low income. SUNY income guidelines for EOP can be found at www.suny.edu/ student/search_programs/eop. If you think you may be eligible for EOP, answer “yes” to the question on the application. The application fee is waived for those eligible for admission to EOP. If you are found to be ineligible for the program, you will be billed for the fee. You may still qualify for admission and financial aid as a general candidate. Your major may have additional requirements. Transfer Credit Policy We accept a maximum of 88 credits from other regionally accredited four-year colleges; 66 credits from two-year colleges; and 15 credits from proprietary institutions. If you transfer to Buffalo State with 60 or more credits, you must apply to a specific program; with fewer than 60 credits, you may apply as an undeclared major. Visit the “Transfer Students” section at www.buffalostate. edu/ admissions for more information. Dual Admission If you participated in the dual admission program at Erie Community College, Genesee Community College, Jamestown Community College, Monroe Community College, Niagara County Community College, or Onondaga Community College, you can transfer to Buffalo State without completing a separate application to Buffalo State after you earn an associate’s degree. For more information, contact your community college’s transfer counselor or a Buffalo State admissions counselor. Is a Supplemental Application Required? Buffalo State considers additional information about your interests and activities, and allows you to submit a personal statement or essay as part of the application process. When Should I Apply? How to Apply 1. Complete and submit the application and fee online at www. buffalostate.edu/admissions/apply.xml. 2. First-time freshmen should send their high school transcripts, standardized test scores, and required supplemental materials to the Buffalo State College Admissions Office. Notification by December 15; tuition deposit due January 15. Transfer and other freshmen applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis, with the first round of decisions going out in mid-January for the fall semester. When Is My Tuition Deposit Due?
