In fact, Buffalo State has been called the flagship for diversity in the SUNY system. We’re diverse in terms of student demographics (more than 25 percent of our undergraduates are students of color, and more than 60 percent are women) and in ideas and experiences. It’s true: our students come from all walks of life. The Anne Frank Project, an on-campus conference designed to celebrate the life and wisdom of Anne Frank and discover ways to elevate the human condition, has quickly become Buffalo State’s most widely supported showcase for diversity and creativity. The annual event, which has been lauded by the Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo, includes workshops, panel discussions, student performances, and lectures by internationally recognized figures. From its inception, the program has been driven by students, and students continue to make it the life-changing event that it is today. .... At Buffalo State, diversity and creativity weave themselves into nearly every facet of student life, from the Intellectual Foundations courses you take as a freshman, to the people you meet, to the research and scholarly activity you conduct, to the rich variety of program offerings and organizations Inspiration is everywhere at Buffalo State. The new, on-campus Burchfield Penney Art Center, which opened in 2008, has been praised repeatedly in the New York Times for its outstanding exhibits featuring the works of famed American watercolorist Charles E. Burchfield and contemporary Western New York artists. Across the street—yes, literally—is the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, which houses works by Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet.
