What’s New? Nine Programs Recertified by The Joint Commission Parrish Medical Center hosted Joint Commission program surveyors for two weeks in May as all nine of its certified diseasespecific programs were inspected. The nine Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care Gold Seals of Approval for healthcare quality were earned for acute coronary syndrome (heart attack treatment), breast health, diabetes management, heart failure care, hip replacement, knee replacement, palliative care, stroke and wound care. Parrish Medical Center is one of only three hospitals in the state—and one of only seven in the entire country—to have nine or more Joint Commission Gold Seals. All nine programs passed with flying colors and were recertified for two more years. A disease management program undergoes an extensive on-site evaluation review for Joint Commission recertification. Assessments are done on the program’s processes and the program’s ability to evaluate and improve care within its own organization, and patients and staff are interviewed. Care Partners Help Fund New Breast Imaging Equipment The signature project of last year’s Circle of Giving—Parrish Medical Center’s employee-giving program—became reality in May when the new Hologic stereotactic breast biopsy unit was installed and put into use. Each year a signature project is chosen, and employees donate money to the project. Donations for the signature project totaled more than $90,000. The breast biopsy table offers the latest advances in stereotactic technology, making it the ideal system for patients who must go one step further than a regular mammogram. With this table, mammography technicians have access to the most difficult lesions, those that would have been impossible to find in the past. Thanks go to the employees who gave of their time and talents to make this happen. Parrish Medical Center is certified as a breast imaging center of excellence by the American College of Radiology. PMC Welcomes New Chef Parrish Medical Center welcomes its new executive chef, Michelle Dullard, who is well established in Titusville. She previously worked at The Great Outdoors and the Elks Club. Dullard’s love of food and food preparation began in her great-grandmother’s kitchen. “I have never looked back since,” she says. Born in Pottsville, Pa., home of Yuengling, America’s oldest brewery, she received her formal culinary education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology (a branch of Penn State). Dullard has had a varied culinary career, with each position adding to her layers of knowledge and expertise. Dullard says the culinary field means not only food preparation but also food ordering, inventory, sanitation, menu planning, and much more.
