Thank You for Your Confidence in Us Opening ThOughTs N We’ll all continue to stay healthy, with your help orth Brevard County has taken its share of economic hits in the past few years because of the country’s general situation and the vastly reduced NASA presence. This has affected individuals, local businesses and organizations, including Parrish Medical Center (PMC). As a major area employer, PMC has a growing position as one of our community’s economic drivers. Our 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week operation employs more than 1,200 people, has more than 300 volunteers and has approximately 150 physicians on the medical staff. As a public, not-for-profit, community hospital, we are 100 percent focused on—and invested in—our community. We are not beholden to stockholders, boards of directors in other cities or states, or anyone other than you. Our mission—as your community hospital—is to provide Healing experiences for everyone all the time®, no matter one’s ability to pay. As a community partner, PMC also does a tremendous amount of business with local vendors who in turn employ local residents. PMC care partners live and play in North Brevard, and their purchases help support and grow our local economy. It goes without saying that a healthy financial position enables PMC to continue its mission and make the healthcare advances that have made it one of America’s most-awarded hospitals for patient care and experience. And as you may be aware, hospitals, including PMC, are facing even more reimbursement cuts from state and federal government, specifically related to Medicare and Medicaid services. When reimbursements go down, everyone is adversely affected. Our community physicians are also receiving reimbursement cuts and being asked to do more for less, which makes it all the more imperative that you seek your medical care locally. As PMC faces its own challenges, we are doing everything we can—and must—to keep costs down and services high. We want to continue to offer all the services and programs now in place for our community. We don’t want to be in the challenging position of needing to make difficult decisions if the downturn continues. That’s why the support of our North Brevard community members is so important. By choosing PMC to receive your health services and seeing local physicians instead of going out of town for care, you will help ensure that the array of award-winning quality health and wellness services provided by PMC and our medical staff stays viable. So far, PMC is one of only a few Florida hospitals, whether for-profit or not-for-profit, that has not begun to eliminate services. PMC care partners have worked diligently to earn nine Gold Seals for quality from The Joint Commission, the nation’s premier healthcare accrediting organization. That’s why PMC is one of only seven in the entire country (out of 5,000-plus hospitals) to earn this many or more Gold Seals. PMC is committed to your good health. The hospital will continue to do everything it must to keep costs down and maintain its position as a premier healing hospital and an economic benefit to our community. Thank you for your continued support of PMC. And thank you for the confidence you show in PMC when you honor our entire hospital family by choosing us for your healthcare needs. Sincerely, J.J. Parrish III Chairman of the Board The hospital will continue to do everything it must to keep costs down and maintain its position as a premier healing hospital and an economic benefit to our community.
