PMC Employee Giving Campaign Benefits Children What happens when The Children’s Center tells you it needs to renovate and expand its playground so community children can continue to enjoy it for years to come? It touches the hearts of a lot of Parrish Medical Center (PMC) employees. PMC’s employees raised more than $125,000 in their fourth annual employee giving campaign that concluded in June. Co-chaired by Ryan Hieronymus, Sheryl Shelley and the Rev. Jerald Smith, the PMC Circle of Giving Committee rallied employees and selected this signature project to further PMC’s mission: Healing experiences for everyone all the time ®. The campaign supported the renovation and expansion of The Children’s Center (TCC) playground as well as other foundation projects designated by employees. In fact, nearly 50 percent of employees voluntarily participated in the latest campaign. When The Children’s Center, a service of PMC and a one-stop childhood development resource center, opened in 2000, the wheelchair-accessible playground was constructed for both special needs and typically developing preschool children ages 2–5. Approximately 250 children and their families were served by TCC then. Now TCC serves well more than 2,500 children annually through its programs, including toddler classes for children ages 1–2. The playground is directly related to childhood success, as it provides the best possible space for therapeutic and child-directed play essential to the growth and development of each child. For children and parents alike, the playground has been a place where all children can run, roll (in the case of children in wheelchairs), laugh and have fun together. Covered by a large blue “umbrella,” it allows the children to play even during the scorching Florida summers. Bill Moore, PMC’s chief information officer and executive sponsor of the Circle of Giving Committee, says: “Our employees continue to amaze me with their generosity. I’m so proud of the committee and our employees who are committed to our vision of Healing Families— Healing Communities®.” 54 Vim & Vigor • W I N TER 2 011
