12 | Newsworthy | Headlining Gap unveils a funky food truck acos and blue jeans aren’t two things you’d necessarily group together, but this quirky combo is exactly what Gap Inc. had in mind to promote its fall advertising campaign “1969: L.A. and Beyond.” The San Franciscobased retailer launched its “Pico de Gap” food trucks in cities nationwide in conjunction with its campaign. The food trucks serve custom taco menus from author Katie Lee in New York, Ryan Scott of “Top Chef” in San Francisco, Rick Gresh of David Burke’s Primehouse in Chicago and Marcel Vigneron of “Top Chef” in Los Angeles. Each Pico de Gap truck features a customized menu from each chef. Lee, a food and lifestyle correspondent for the “CBS Early Show” and author T of “The Comfort Table,” is serving up fish, chicken, steak and tofu tacos, while Vigneron’s truck offers braised lamb, shrimp, carnitas and spicy tofu tacos. Scott brings his own food truck expertise to Gap, with his mole-braised brisket, pumpkin seeds, red onion marmalade, queso fresco and Mexican chocolate vinaigrette tacos, and Gresh features farmer’s market queso fundido and dry aged steak, chicken chorizo and pork belly tacos. “The idea of Pico de Gap—and the taco truck used in our fall campaign “1969: L.A. and Beyond”—came about one night when I was having dinner with our 1969 design team in downtown L.A.,” says Seth Farbman, Gap’s chief marketing officer. “It’s these types of everyday | Events moments that shape who we are as people and inspire the product we design for our customers. We thought it would be an unexpected, engaging way to share a little more about ourselves and the experience we had that night.” Pico de Gap trucks are hand-painted and include a replica of a vintage Gap ad, as well as a neon sign from the ’70s. Trucks can be found at farmers’ markets, festivals, select Gap retail locations, nightclubs and live music events. And there are plenty of perks for Gap customers, too. Customers are able to check out the Gap 1969 fall denim collection while noshing on $1.69 tacos. Better yet, they can get their taco meal for free with a same-day Gap denim purchase. In addition, $20off coupons are available to every Pico de Gap patron, along with randomly selected customers receiving a coupon for a free pair of Gap 1969 jeans. Consumers can find out where the Pico de Gap truck is in their area by visiting Pico de Gap on Facebook and Twitter: Los Angeles (@picodegapLA), San Francisco (@picodegapSF), New York (@picodegapNY) and Chicago (@picodegapChi). —HEATHER STRANG Photos: StarTraksPhoto.com Venue announced for GlobalShop Opening Night Reception GlobalShop2012 Sponsored by: G Marquee Las Vegas at The Cosmopolitan lobalShop 2012 is preparing to start off with a bang yet again, as the annual GlobalShop Opening Night Reception has announced an exciting new venue on the first day of the show.
