Executive Message
The year 2010 was strong for SAE International. During the year, the organization returned to sustainability by restoring value through its programs, products and services. That success was fueled by a strong planning process that had begun the previous year. Good planning helps to lay the groundwork for success and SAE International understands this fact. Much of 2010 was devoted to planning for what we believe will be the continued success of this organization – a strategy for long-term growth through value. Several years ago the SAE International Board of Directors put forth a bold initiative called Vision 2020. The initiative calls for SAE International to lead the mobility industry by: • Connecting a global network of students, engineers, practitioners, and companies. • Attracting, managing, and distributing mobility-related information through: • Education • Standards • Technical publications
• Leading in global standardization. • Creating and sustaining beneficial affiliations and interfaces that add value, encourage innovation, and help form sound public policy. In 2010, SAE International laid out a roadmap for the next 10 years to achieve the goals in Vision 2020. That roadmap called upon the creative and planning resources of SAE International’s Board members, committee members and staff to revise current programs, products and services and create new ones that will be relevant over the next decade. Some of them build on the strengths that SAE International already enjoys in the mobility engineering industry, and others represent new business forays and initiatives. All are done with the single goal or providing the most value for today’s – and tomorrow’s – mobility engineering professional. As you read through this annual report, you’ll review some of the many accomplishments that SAE International achieved throughout 2010. But, you’ll also see the planning and groundwork that went into positioning this organization for success in the future. This planning centers around four core strategies:
