According to the Technomic survey, 14% of consumers are making more purchases of regular hot coffee than they did two years ago, and 10% said the same thing about iced tea by the cup or glass. Green tea is of interest to about 73% of consumers while lemon, at 61%, and honey, at 61%, are appealing tea flavors. According to SymphonyIRI, U.S. retail sales of canned and bottled tea rose 3% to $1.3 billion for the 52 weeks ended Aug. 7. The AriZona brand ranked first with sales of $330.4 million, up 1% from the previous 52-week period. The Lipton brand, at $192.6 million, was down 11% in sales, and Snapple, at $116.9 million, was down 1%. When juices are consumed, 100% juice should be encouraged.
